Russian State Duma wants bookmakers to pay 5% of quarterly incomes

State Duma will review a draft law on implementation of 5% charge of quarterly income from bookmakers’ offices, totalizators, and also from state-run lotteries.

Government of the Russian Federation submited for approval of the State Duma a draft law “On amendments being made to certain legislative acts  of the Russian Federation (in connection with terms of mechanisms to increase the income of sports entities)”. Amendments to the federal law “On state regulation of activities of the organization and conduct of gambling games and amending some legislative acts of the Russian Federation” are envisaged.

According to the text of the bill, bookmaker’s offices and totalizators will be obligated to pay 5% of quarterly income in support of development of physical culture and sport at the elite level.  That said, the amount of the charged fee should not be less than RUB 3 million (USD 47 thousand) and should not exceed RUB 15 million (USD 234 thousand).

Moreover, this bill provides for charges from Russian national state-run lottery in support of physical culture and sport. It should be noted that this bill also allows for – the permission for games and betting advertising, that bookmakers’ offices and totalizators conduct. It will be possible to advertise bookmaker’s services during the live broadcasts of sporting events.
